A very popular highway in the Metropolis that connects major cities such as Caloocan City, believe to be the beginning part of the road, where the Andres Bonifacio’s monument was built to remind people coming from provinces that they are already entering Manila. Mandaluyong also known as a business center and major malls are constructed. Makati, the country’s business capital, were most companies and commercial buildings are located. Quezon City known as the city of stars, were most of the country’s celebrity personalities lives and Pasay in the southern part. The road is a very important road that connects the northern and southern parts of the metropolis and 200,000+ vehicles uses the road in an average day.
Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue is not just a busy long stretched were you get to pass by when you are heading south or north to escape the busy Metro to go somewhere quite to relax and unwind. Or go on a mall during weekend with friends and families. It plays a very important part in the Philippine history. The People Power Revolution or EDSA Revolution happened along of EDSA in 1986 were a series of non violent demonstration and street mass occurred for three days. It is sometimes referred as a Yellow Revolution due to the presence of yellow ribbons during the arrival of the assassinated Senator Ninoy Aquino. This protest from the people is against a 20 year running f office of the late dictator President Ferdinand Marcos which made news headlines as the revolution that surprise the world. Majority of the protest took place along EDSA in Quezon City which involve 200, 000 Filipino as well as military and religious figures. When President Marcos fled and left the Malacanang Palace, Corazon Aquino took over and become the Philippines first lady President.
Before, it was named Junio 19 after the Philippine national hero Jose Rizal’s birth date during the Quezon’s presidency. Then it was named for quite awhile Highway 54 for it stretches 54 kilometers long. And eventually it was renamed in honored of a noted Filipino historian named Epifanio Delos Santos.
EDSA today is moving alongside with the fast global modernization. Along its stretched side-to-side are location for business establishments which is a good thing for it give more jobs for the people.
